Alfred Hassall  (reception), St Walburgas Catholic Primary School, Shipley.

“Prehistoric Nativity”.

Alfred used his science experiments kit to make a sodium alginate “gel” that he coloured. He poured the gel into dinosaur moulds. He then made a solution of calcium chloride and lowered the gel moulds in. This made the gel set! He used the set dinosaur pieces to make a Nativity scene collage, including star, dino baby Jesus, Mary, Joseph and the 3 wise men (dinosaurs) bearing gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh (in rock form).

We made a light box with a perspex box, grease paper and torches and photographed his collage.

With a bit of dino digging, we also found that two species of dinosaur were local (!!) – Sauropods and Theropods which are represented by Mary and Joseph.
